Aap Kaa Surroor Review

Just what we needed!

A talentless, ignorant lackey dipping his oars in new waters. That he looks terribly constipated did not deter the producers to invest their hard-earned (?) money into this ill fated ego trip.

Those last words remind me of this program where Himesh is 'judging' new singers. Here for the first time, he gets to display his other 'talents' as well. Namely, his penchant to burst into anger at the most trivial of things and his ridiculous singing of his own praises. Oh sorry, I used the word singing here. I mean blowing of his own trumpet. I can see Anu malik handing over his crown to him. Add to this his calling other greats, whose names I don't even want to write in a piece written on Himesh, nasal singers! He himself is not even a singer, just nasal maybe but not singer.

I would also like to add a comment on this ' Assalam Wailekum' song. Why would any lover say those words to another? They basically mean How are you? Is that romantic for him? (Maybe, that's  why he got jilted as a lover.) Or, in Mr Reshammiya's limited imagination including any Urdu word would make the song a Sufi one. (Is 'ye Ladka Hai Allah Kaisa Hai Deewana' a Sufi song?) Even if he had to use an Urdu word where did 'Subhanallah', 'Mashallah' etc. go? Oh, wait they were already taken, right? And Mr. Crap-esh Fuckammiya wanted to do something different.

Finally, those who chose to be associated with this film and those who choose to watch it: YOU DESERVE WHAT YOU GET.

Brokeback Mountain – A Review

One newspaper reviewer of a popular English daily felt disappointed with this film. As a lot of people are going to be. The problem I feel is this:

In this world of broad, chest beating soap operas and Hindi biggies cinematically equivalent of an unsatisfying quickie in an uncomfortable closet, where everything is underlined with outrageous sound effects (they call it background music) and painfully obvious and infantile dialogue it is difficult to appreciate a subtle, understated and beautifully crafted piece of cinema such as this.

Ang Lee's film goes beyond the film's wrongful summation by some as a 'gay cowboy story' beacuse it has its focus on their feelings rather on their sexual orientation. Infact, after a point it becomes so easy to replace one of the either characters by a woman that you never notice that they are two men. Also the wives don't react to their husbands being bisexuals, their reaction is just like a response any adultery will have. Heartbreaking stuff.
